Achieving Goals By Establishing a Clear Path to Success
92% of New Year’s’ Resolutions fail within the first two weeks of January. Following a path to realistically achieving goals means that the road has been cleared by the proper planning and motivations. How are you going to set yourself up to successfully reach your goals, both professionally and outside of your career?
Career, travel, hobbies, relationships, education, finances, and health are all areas around which people set goals. While specific objectives vary from person to person, the way we go about successfully completing them can use the same methodology. At Red Tomato, we have a three-part approach to help you successfully reach your goals, in both your professional path and in your personal goals
Structure
With any objective you want to receive, the first step is always the definition. As a result, you define exactly what your goals are and use a SMART approach to decide the specifics. Then, create a shell; break down large tasks into weekly goals, monthly goals, and yearly goals.
Pro tip: people who write down their goals are significantly more likely to achieve them than people who do not.
- Specific
- Measurable
- Attainable
- Relevant
- Time Bound
For example, trade in “Improve communication and writing skills” for “Attend the “Strategic Communication” course by the end of Q4 to improve writing and communication skills used in teamwork environments”.
When setting your clear path to success, you should make sure the goals you set are ones that will motivate you. While you are considering options and motivations think of your “why”:
- Why are these your objectives?
- Why are they important to you personally to achieve them?
- Why are they important for the company?
Strategy
Create an action plan.
All goals need a strategy and that includes a timeline. Make sure it’s realistic for you and sets you up with enough time for each small step.
Set benchmarks.
How and when will you track how you are progressing and how much closer you are to achieving your goals? Determine how they are aligning with the goals of the company; including their timelines and benchmarks.
Celebration
Now it’s time to reward yourself for completing your goals and using promotional products are a great way to prepare yourself for future objectives. Merchandise such as to-do lists, pen holders, power banks, desk phone-holders and weekly planners are great products that you can reward yourself with while still sporting your company’s logo. Make your day-to-day more organised and make achieving your next objectives easier!
